Bewitch 2A3 ecco le foto....

Ciao e buongiorno a tutti!
Con i dovuti tempi vi invio qualche foto (perdonate la qualità non eccelsa) dell'ampli in oggetto arrivato martedì da hong kong (tubestein sulla baia). In 7 giorni mi è arrivato a casa e come già detto ho avuto "clemenza" da parte della dogana.
L'imballo era molto ben fatto (peraltro tubestein manda insieme al tracking 4-5 foto dello stesso per mostrare com'è fatto il pacco, le indicazioni annesse etc etc).

L'ho attaccato da due giorni alle SF anche se non nel posizonamento definitivo (sto provvedendo a crearmi del mensolame "ikea based" vediamo che viene fuori!!). Tralasciando la sensazione di calore dettata da fattori psicologici e ambientali (si ciuccia sempre circa 350 Watt la bestiolina accesa e scalda anzichenò) beh mi ha stupito...certo con le monitor da 90 db di sensibilità andava "forte" fin a volumi bassissimi ma è bastato poco per pilotare anche le "difficili" concertino da 87 db.
Attualmente, nel mio ambiente e per i miei gusti di ascolto (e per convivenza coniugale aggiungerei) ho il limite massimo a poco meno di metà corsa dell'attenuatore che se tanto mi da tanto si aggira attorno ai 10W.
Detto questo, differenze rispetto alle precedenti configurazioni (pre valvole + quad405, pre valvole + GC, TA2024 + buffer) ce ne sono e molto ma molto più marcate di quanto credessi.
Il basso ha più corpo (molto vicino al GC da questo punto di vista anche se meno asciutto e più rotondo, meno smorzato similare a quanto ottenevo col quad), nel contempo gli alti sono più definiti rispetto al GC e si affianca al dettaglio ottenuto col TA2024 che però perde in fatto di "muscoli" (almeno nella mia versione non "tuiccata"). La piacevole sorpresa è stato scoprire che la messa a fuoco della scena e il dettaglio (caratteristiche che mi gustavo col T-Amp) sono ricomparse con il 2A3. Non ci avrei scommesso mille lire....infatti ho ricollegato il T-AMP e il GC (per la gioia dei vicini ) per due raffronti onde fugare sensazioni psicoacustiche (più psico) fallate.
Pensavo di avere meno dettaglio, le valvole originali china made (Shungang sia rettificatrici che driver) sembrano invece rendere bene e le 2A3 fanno il loro sporco mestiere adeguatamente.
L'accortezza di scaldarlo per bene, come per tutti gli ampli di questo tipo, ci deve essere ma pochi minuti bastano per poter già godere del suono riprodotto dall'oggetto.
Mi chiedo ora come muterà la sonorità del tutto via via che il rodaggio proseguirà. Immagino che, soprattutto le finali, possano godere del trattamento e se qualcuno avesse indicazioni particolari per tale attività è benvenuto! (purchè però non siano cose del tipo tienilo 30 ore acceso altrimenti l'enel mi manda un cesto a casa per natale!!).
Per ora quindi promosso!!!!....unico neo....pesa un accidente e mezzo.
Come anticipato, proprio per questo via leroy merlin e ikea mi sto facendo un mobiletto "aiend" con due belle tavole di faggio massello da 2 cm (devo dargli impregnante e quant'altro per scurirle) e dei piedoni da 16 cm regolabili presi all'ikea (in acciaio spazzolato)...speriamo reggano!!! Magari poi vi posto qualche foto a lavoro ultimato!

Dalla foto dell'interno sembra pure ingegnerizzato bene, ora fallo funzionare e con il tempo ed il rodaggio non può che migliorare. Se puoi, fa foto (a fuoco) degli interni

Concordo....un pò è anche "colpa tua" ero partito per il 6550 ma poi il fascino della 2A3 e una disponibilità economica superiore, han fatto il resto.
Per ora quoto in pieno! Consigliatissimo sia il brand che il tizio (Tubestein)..
Ho anche lo schema se a qualcuno puà fregare qualcosa scannerizzo e posto.

Ehm scusa.....potevi anche dirmi che aveva la superspingitubo rosso metallizzata che per me era uguale .... che significa? Assie!!!
Piuttosto come valvole quelle raddrizzatrici fanno pena o van bene?

Pur essendo in parallelo le raddrizzatrici la capacità è piuttosto abbondante.
Sarebbe da vedere quanto feedback gli hanno dato. In teoria neanche servirebbe.

As the owner of our wonderful BEWITCH 6550 (KT88) tubed amplifier, I am also deeply curious about the BEWITCH 2A3.

I see above, that someone has already shared a schematic. The problem is, the resolution is so low, that I cannot read it!

I am hoping some kind soul might be able to share a high-rez schematic, please?

I think we'll stay on the diyaudio.com page with our Bewitch thread where some other users are also giving answers.

I have looked at the circuit diagram and copied and printed it out, a lot of the information is identifiable and when I have some time I'll try to add to it and later we'll compare the circuit variants with each other and discuss it on another forum page.

In return, I have a simple and very impacting new tweak to share with you about the BEWITCH 6550/KT88, but I won't go off-topic here.

I will PM you.

I had another look at the BEWITCH 2A3 schematic above and decided to share my hot tweaks with everyone here – because I can see that these tweaks can equally apply to the BEWITCH 2A3; not just the BEWITCH 6550 (KT88).

Think of it as an early Christmas Present!

Both 2A3 and 6550 BEWITCH circuits show a Global Negative Feedback (GNFB) circuit, feeding back into the input stage, from the amplifier’s negative output posts.

Tweak 1.
A common tweak is to bypass the GNFB resistor with a very-small value, very-high quality capacitor.

This low value bypass capacitor serves to essentially "remove" the negative feedback effect at high frequencies, allowing for a more responsive high-frequency response in the circuit, while still maintaining the benefits of negative feedback at the lower frequencies.

With a 100K GNFB resistor in circuit - as is the case with the (stock) BEWITCH 6550 circuit - a bypass capacitor of (say) 3nF will remove all of the frequencies above 6,000Hz, restoring full Gain and purity to those higher frequencies. This value may be to high for some tastes. Others may prefer to move the frequency filter higher in the sonic spectrum to (say) 12,000Hz in which case a 2nF bypass capacitor would be selected. Season to taste!

I used a non-magnetic, silver mica capacitor, which provides an (alternate) low impedance path for AC signals to bypass the resistor at higher frequencies. A quality polystyrene capacitor would also be a good choice.

In a marketing photo of the PURESOUND A30 – a slightly up-market variant of our beloved BEWITCH 6550 – published on the 6MOONS website, I saw that PURESOUND has indeed applied this low-value bypass capacitor to the GNFB resistor. (See below, but I cannot visually determine the value...)



This is a quick and easy tweak that requires very little skill to apply.

The result? Cleaner and more pure top frequencies with increased Gain in those frequencies.

If you are seeking more quality "sparkle" to the sound of your tube amp, this might be a very good place to start.

Tweak 2.
Personally, I feel that Tweak 2 is the more important of the two tweaks shared here.

Most audiophiles do NOT use shielded speaker cables. This means that on any given system, the speaker cables act as very effective aerials, collecting all kinds of Radio Frequency (RF) noise and interference.

This becomes a problem, because any RF collected at the speaker cables will become part of the GNFB circuit feeding directly into the input of the amplifier, forming part of the input signal to be endlessly recycled through the GNFB circuit – to the detriment of sound quality.

The fix – Tweak 2 – is simple. Install a ferrite inductor at the negative speaker cable output post, where the GNFB circuit feed is connected.

This ferrite inductor will introduce a very small amount of resistance – which is harmless – but importantly,  the ferrite inductor filters all of the RF that is currently being collected at the speaker cables and being fed into the input of the amplifier via the GNFB circuit.

At first, I tested this theory with two simple clip-on ferrite inductors – clipped around the negative speaker cable connector on each channel. Very happy with the sonic improvement, I took it one step further and installed the ferrite inductors inside the amplifier chassis, as close to the GNFB resistor as possible. This ensures that undesirable RF has even less chance to enter into the circuit.

So, there it is! Two tweaks that are easy to try. I wish I owned test equipment in order that I could provide readers with before and after measurements. Sadly, I do not.

I hope that some of you owners get some value from these ideas – and if you are able to show measurements, all the better!

I am very happy to discuss these ideas.
